Education & Training
I began working toward my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology
at the University of California at Berkeley in 1989. I began my
first clinical practicum (actually working with clients/patients,
under supervision) in 1994 while getting my graduate
degrees in clinical psychology at the University of Missouri-
Columbia. During my graduate years, in addition to the
standard adult training, I completed specialized training in
child psychology. I further completed a clinical internship
specializing in children and families at the University of
Illinois-Chicago.
My area of research involved young adolescents’ peer
relations and how these experiences may influence them
currently as well as in adult life. I was awarded a dissertation
grant from the National Institute of Mental Health to conduct
this research.
After earning my doctorate, I was selected for a fellowship
position at the Prevention Intervention Research Center at
Arizona State University. In this position, I continued my
studies as well as work with children and families. I then
completed a psychological residency at a mental health clinic
in Phoenix where I worked with adults, couples, children,
adolescents, and families. Subsequently, I obtained my
license from the Arizona Board of Psychologist Examiners. I
am continually advancing my expertise by taking online
education courses and attending specialized trainings.

My Background
I grew up in the Midwest, in a suburb of
Kansas City, Missouri. I am the second of
four children and have a very close family
as well as quite an extensive extended

Area, Chicago). I now reside in Phoenix,
AZ and belong to a number of
professional and community
organizations.
Media
I have published in both scholarly
journals as well as contributed to
chapters in books pertaining to mental
health and treatment. I also have served
as a peer reviewer editing and providing
feedback to other authors’ articles.
I have appeared on the Dr. Phil show as
a treating psychologist for a recurring

local news/information programs. I also
have been quoted as an expert in a
